Yesterday we got to hear two new Arcade Fire tracks called “The Suburbs” and “Month of May,” which have been released as a 12″ single to independent record stores and now details have emerged of the band’s third studio album. The new disc will be called The Suburbs and is due out August 3, quite possibly the busiest day for record stores.

Following 2007′s Neon Bible, the new album was co-produced by Markus Dravs, who has previously worked Coldplay and Bjork and was recorded over the past two years in Montreal and New York. It has been rumored the band have been working with film director Spike Jonze on a project relating to the album.

The Arcade Fire website currently has lyrics up for the single “The Suburbs” as well as a short letter (below) to fans from Arkady Fireovitch concerning the new album. Touring this summer the band will play three Canadian shows in Ottawa, Montreal and Toronto.
