Fleet Foxes drummer J. Tillman announced via his Tumblr (and accompanied by an animated gif of himself drumming) yesterday that he would be leaving the Fleet Foxes.

“Farewell Fleet Fans and Friends,” the post reads, before continuing rather self-deprecatingly, “back into the gaping maw of obscurity I go.”

The show in Tokyo tonight will be his last with the band, and where the goodbye messaged started seemingly good-natured, it ends on a darker note. “Sorry if I was distant and obtuse if we ever met. Have fun.”

Tillman will likely maintain his solo career post-Foxes; his most recent album, Singing Ax, was released last year. [via Rolling Stone]
