Octoberman released new album Waiting in the Well recently, and they’ve just released the Japanese author Haruki Murakami-inspired animated video for “Wind Up Bird.”

“I read The Wind Up Bird Chronicles by Haruki Murakami around three years ago and related strongly to its protagonist in the way that he spent a lot of time on his own over-analyzing things,” singer/songwriter Marc Morrissette tells AUX. “Late last November, I was having coffee with my old buddy and former roommate Mitch Papineau and we were discussing the idea of him doing an animated video for the song. Mitch quickly read the book and found himself as inspired as I was.”

“I read book in 3 days,” director/animator Papineau says. “I needed to understand why Marc made an amazing song about this book and I soon found reading it extremely addictive. From there I wanted to create art that complemented the song’s moods, swings, and story. As an animator and director, I could not have asked for a better song and book to develop ideas from.”

Morrissette also credits the players on the song for turning it from his “simple little country song” to finished product—Tavo Diez de Bonilla on bass, Marshall Bureau on drums, Jim Guthrie on guitar, Randy Lee on violin, Francois Turenne on ambient guitar, and Melissa Dalton on background vocals, with mixing by Howie Beck.
