One of the reasons why bands started jumping ship from MySpace to Facebook was the latter’s addition of third party applications that made streaming music on the site not only possible, but functional. Unfortunately that’s about to change, as the end of the month brings the mandatory adoption of Facebook’s bizarre Timeline layout on all Pages.

As the LA Times reports, the change will render popular apps ReverbNation and BandPage completely non-functional.

Basically, imagine a more annoying, modern application of MySpace’s weird, forced pop-up player.

While Timeline will allow bands a more graphic display, which should prove useful for more visual acts, the difficulty it poses in actually sharing music could prove to be a divisive issue, as it should be.

There will no doubt be an alternative (and presumably proprietary or sponsored) solution to this sometime soon after the switch takes place, but Timeline’s layout simply doesn’t lend itself to music pages. Even if new music apps are eventually implemented into the layout, its scrolling format means quickly finding tracks to sample artists will likely be a pain.

The change is scheduled to take place on March 30th. Don’t say we didn’t warn you.
