An FM radio frequency long-held in Toronto by community/Ryerson University station CKLN had its license revoked by the CRTC last year, and now the 88.1 position on the dial has become highly coveted, garnering over 30 applications for new stations.
One of them, amongst the many adult-alternative and easy-listening applications, is for an indie rock station, which would turn the currently web-only Indie Toronto website into a full-fledged radio station.
Barrie, ON-based Central Ontario Broadcasting, who also run the modern rock Rock 95 and “hot” adult contemporary Kool FM stations in Barrie, made the application, with the intent of the station being to give airtime to emerging local and international artists. [via BlogTO]
