It seems like yesterday, but it was almost exactly a month ago that the long list for the 2012 Polaris Music Prize was announced live from Vancouver. Today—moments ago!—the second list, the short one, was announced live from the Drake Hotel in Toronto.

The next date to keep in mind is the gala on September 24, where one of these artists will be awarded $30,000 for having made the best Canadian album of the year. In the meantime, check out our Polaris Prize oral history for an overview of how the award started and has evolved to become what it is today.
