In a study that proves that even scientists sometimes have too much time on their hands, a bunch of dorks at the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole, MA conducted an experiment on a dead squid that proves it changes colour when Cypress Hill’s “Insane in the Brain” is played directly into its nervous system.
The Longfin Inshore Squid (or loligo pealei) has pigmented cells that change between brown, red and yellow and when the scientists hooked their iPod into its fin nerve, the music bounced its dorsal side between colours to the beat. Watch a video of the super necessary science happening above (it’s zoomed through an 8x microscope) up above, and read a little more on the experiment here.
