Tom DeLonge sings like he’s been kicked in the head, so you’ll have to excuse him for getting his thoughts crossed when he tweeted last night that Blink 182 were now an independent band.

Currently hard at work on the follow-up to last year’s front-loaded Neighborhoods, DeLonge technically wasn’t lying when he said that Blink 182′s an independent act, but he wasn’t really telling the truth, either.

Confirmed by a report on NME, Blink 182 are technically unsigned and without a label. That’s not the same thing as being an independent band, though, and with ties to MCA and Geffen as well as Interscope throughout their career, we’re doubting that their next album’s going to be some self-produced, Bandcamp only release. The only way to really call his bluff is to see what happens when their next album’s finished, but it’s pretty unlikely that they hold true to Tom’s exclamatory tweet, especially since they’re so often coddled by any number of corporate sponsors.
