At a one-off benefit for Hurricane Sandy, a 70-year-old knight of the British honour will front Nirvana, a band famous for its lead singer’s suicide, naked baby album cover, and a song called “Rape Me.”
The Guardian reports that it has been 20 years since Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic have performed together, and that Sir Paul McCartney will join them in New York to run through a new song they’ve secretly been working on.
The idea was Grohl’s, but McCartney was reportedly a little lost when the Foo Fighters singer asked him to jam with him and some friends.
“I didn’t really know who they were. They are saying how good it is to be back together. I said: ‘Whoa? You guys haven’t played together for all that time?’” said McCartney. “And somebody whispered to me: ‘That’s Nirvana. You’re Kurt.’ I couldn’t believe it.”
The show’s going to happen tonight at Madison Square Garden, where Sir Paul will perform alongside young-guns like The Rolling Stones, Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen and Jon Bon Jovi.
