According to reports from the school itself, New College Nottingham will be offering England’s first Foundation Degree in Heavy Metal starting this September. The idea is about as insane as it sounds.

The school’s website says that the program will see students “forming bands, gigging and promoting, while academically delving into what makes metal such a music phenomenon.

A hilarious looking banner posted on the program’s page indicates that the it was created in response to student demand. It is not known if eye-liner and dread-beads will be provided as part of the course fee, or if they’ll need to be purchased separately.

For what it’s worth, Nottingham does have some relevance to the genre, since it’s where Iron Maiden singer Bruce Dickinson was born. Read more about the course here. [via deathmetal.org]
