Could Brampton be hip-hop’s new hot spot?

Uh, no. Probably not. But the Ontario suburb is in rap news for the second time this week after it was revealed that 16-year-old Brampton-based producer WondaGurl is behind “Crown,” a track off Jay-Z’s latest album Magna Carta Holy Grail.

According to a press release, WondaGurl’s been making beats since she was 9 and most recently worked with SonReal & RichKidd on their Juno-nominated release The Closers, for which she worked on “Money Money,” but it’s her work with Travi$ Scott (on “Uptown”) that apparently caught Jay-Z’s attention. $cott shares production credits on the track, which you can check out below.

It’s hard to say what’ll happen next for her, since she’s still young, but being on a credit sheet next to names like Jay-Z, Pharrell, Timbaland and The-Dream is one hell of a start. Keep your ears out for this girl.
