Electric Six

Electric Six is a Detroit-based, six-piece band whose genre-crossing repertoire has served as the foundation for eight studio albums to date. Originally named The Wildbunch, (changing their title after a conflict with a Bristol trip-hop group of the same name), the band formed in 1996, making a name for themselves in the Detroit rock scene that yielded artists like The White Stripes. It consists currently of Dick Valentine (Tyler Spencer) on lead vocals (as well as being primary songwriter for the group, he is the only original member), The Colonel (Zach Shipps) on guitar, Johnny Na$hinal (John Nash) on guitar, Tait Nucleus? (Christopher Tait) on keyboard, Smorgasbord! (Keith Thomson) on bass, and Percussion World (Mike Alonso) on drums.

After releasing the critically acclaimed album “Fire” in 2003, the band’s breakout single “Danger! High Voltage” was especially successful in the United Kingdom, reaching #2 on the UK Singles Chart. It received broad attention after a rumor circulated that the song featured backup vocals by Jack White. Though both the band and White denied this rumor, the album credits John S. O’leary for the vocals, which is a pseudonym used by White. Their second single “Fire” reached #5 on the UK Singles Chart.

After a significant lineup change in 2004, the band released several more albums, “Senor Smoke” (2005), “Switzerland” (2006), “I Shall Exterminate Everything Around Me That Restricts me From Being the Master” (2007), “Flashy” (2008), “Sexy Trash” (2008), “Kill” (2009), and “Zodiac” (2010). Their eighth studio album “Heartbeats and Brainwaves” was released in October, 2011 and will see the band tour North America in the fall.
