Justice

Justice is a Parisian DJ/production duo formed in 2003, comprised of Gaspard Augé and Xavier De Rosnay, affiliated with major electro label Ed Banger Records. They built a reputation in the European electro community through self-released EPs and well received remixes of songs by artists like Britney Spears, N.E.R.D and Franz Ferdinand. Their debut album, known as “Cross” but whose title is merely the symbol of a cross, was released in 2007 and earned them a Grammy nomination for Best Electronic/Dance album and Best Dance Recording as well as being #15 on Pitchfork’s Top 50 Albums of 2007. The group followed with the “D.A.N.C.E” EP (2007), earning them the title of “Best French Act of the Year” at the European Music Awards.

Justice released a DVD/Documentary film entitled “A Cross The Universe” in 2008. On the supporting tour, a picture surfaced showing part of the group’s equipment unplugged, leading to accusations that the two had been faking their live shows. They responded by explaining that the machine was only unplugged briefly before the problem was fixed. Following this, the group won a Grammy in 2009 for their remix of MGMT’s “Electric Feel” in the Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical category.

Their second album “Audio, Visual, Disco” was released in October, 2011.

  2. Justice and M83 to headline summer concert at Toronto's Fort York

On August 4th, the fields of Toronto's historic Fort York will be filled mobs of sweaty, dancing bodies with the news that Justice and M83 will be playing there as part of HARD Toronto, a one off gig put on by the largely electronic promotions brand. Joining them will be Buraka Som Sistema and Toronto's own Austra. Tickets for the gig are on sale now, available online and at your favourite ticket vendors around the city.
  3. Listen to the Rick Rubin remix of Justice's "On’n’On"

Justice released a video for their song "On'n'On" just a few days ago, only to be outdone by Rick Rubin's remix, available for streaming below. The On'n'On EP will be out next week.
  4. Watch Justice's new, NSFW video for "On'n'On"

Justice - On'n'on by justice First, a warning: you will see tits in Justice's new video for "On'n'On." But in fairness, what are you doing watching music videos at work anyways? Besides, the video's pretty cool, swooping through a streamlined series of bodies and swords and rocks and faces and other stuff, too.
  5. Best of 2011: Patrick Pentland of Sloan

AUX is in the habit of ranking what we thought were the best of the respective genres we cover -- Indie/Pop/Rock, Hip Hop, Pop, Metal, Punk, and Electronic. This year, we also reached out to as many of the artists featured on our lists as we could -- our best-of the year's best-of the year's. Patrick Pentland of Sloan Justice - Audio Video Disco Criticized for prog-rock leanings, but I thought it was a great counter to the current dubstep movement… which I'm also into... Skrillex - Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites (technically released late 2010) I like big, distorted bass and drums. I listen to this with the same enthusiasm as when I listen to Slayer. M83 - Hurry Up, We're Dreaming Another blast of the same melodramatic chord progressions, the same drum fills, and the same emotional response. Keep it coming. God Bless Ozzy Osbourne (film) A great, personal look inside the life of one of the most documented characters in rock music. Jack Osbourne held very little back. Fucked Up - David Comes to Life Ambitious, but not boring… which is how I feel about most things described as ambitious. My kids Because they are the most kick ass, entertaining people I've ever met. Waaay smarter, talented, and aware than me. Cerebral Ballzy - Cerebral Ballzy At times a tad annoying, but I love the old school hardcore approach. Just as I was into OFF! last year, this record sounds like 1985, but this time it's not done by guys who were actually there, it's kids who get it. Community (TV) Pound for pound, one of the smartest comedies on TV, and it's all because of the supporting cast. Oh, and Chevy Chase is a friggin' genius. Walking Dead (TV) Zombies, guns, guts, betrayal. AND it could happen any day now. Swervedriver at NXNE Dream show. Sound was kind of whatever, but I'm a huge Adam Franklin admirer, and this show saw him blow me away once again. Check out his band Bolts Of Melody for proof the man can still write a song.
