News about Ryan Adams

  1. Ryan Adams, Childish Gambino and Michael McDonald audition for Super Bowl half-time show in new '30 Rock' short

Michael McDonald singing the Saved by the Bell theme song is just one of the many musical highlights in a new 30 Rock webisode which asks the question every football fan wishes was real: what if Madonna couldn't do the Super Bowl half-time show? In the latest episode of the popular NBC show's Donaghy Files webseries, McDonald is just one of Madge's possible replacements, auditioning for the chance at the big show against the likes of Ryan Adams and Childish Gambino (former 30 Rock writer Donald Glover). But there's a twist when NBC's own Cee-Lo Green tosses his presumably goofy hat into the mix. It's really not as confusing as it sounds. Watch the cartoon up top.
  2. Watch the new Ryan Adams video, "Chains of Love"

Released earlier today, the video for Ryan Adams' "Chains of Love" sees the metal obsessed singer-songwriter donning his favourite Venom shirt and delivering a relatively straight-forward performance of his more trademarked alt-country sound. Featuring fireworks and scenic shots on a rooftop and in an isolated, grassy knoll, the video's certainly worth a watch.
  3. What year is it again? Dave Grohl records a song with Ratt and Ryan Adams covers their hit "Round and Round"

Today we're going to party like it's 1983, because for whatever reason there's a double dose of Ratt in the headlines. First, Noisecreep reports today that vocalist Stephen Pearcy and guitarist Warren DeMartini are finishing up some work with Dave Grohl. The song is for an upcoming, untitled project from Grohl. "We'll let [Dave] tell you about when he's ready, kidz," said Pearcy, adding that the song is not for the new Ratt record. And then there's Ryan Adams, whose love of 80s metal is well documented. He's been covering Ratt's "Round and Round" for a while and took the opportunity to record it properly when he stopped by NPR earlier this week. Listen to his cover below. 4. Watch Ryan Adams and Laura Marling perform "Oh My Sweet Carolina" at Abbey Road

Laura Marling joined Ryan Adams at Abbey Road studios recently to do a duet of his song "Oh My Sweet Carolina," a collaboration that was particularly meaningful to Adams. "[I was] sent her second record when I was working on my new record...and it knocked me over," Adams says in the video. "I actually threw out the album and re-wrote my record, based on that album. I thought, 'someone's actually taking this very seriously! I should probably take this seriously!' It was amazing. A great motivation." The duet is about as sweet as you'd imagine. Watch the clip above.
  5. Watch Ryan Adams' new black metal talk show thing, "Night Sweats"

Fresh off his first new album in years (III/IV doesn't count), Ryan Adams can go back to doing one of the things he loves most: making people uncomfortable with his surprising love of all thing's metal. His latest venture isn't an ill-advised tribute album (Orion) or a silly Iron Maiden cover. Instead, he's taken his antics to YouTube for a black metal themed talk-show thingy named "Night Sweats," which strikes a comedic balance between an Impaled Northern Moonforest song and Sesame Street. So, yeah. It's weird.
