Zeus is the king of Gods in Greek mythology, a type of personal computer and a rock band from Toronto that is our X3 Artist of the month. Backing band for Jason Collett, last year Zeus released their debut EP, Sounds Like Zeus, in anticipation of their 12-song full length Say Us, released last month. Founding members Carlin Nicholson and Mike O’Brien, who grew up together in Barrie, are joined by Rob Drake and Neil Quin. In addition to recording their own material the band has acted as producer for The Golden Dogs’ latest effort as well as new albums from Collett and Danielle Duval. The band stopped by our studios to play us a few songs, watch their performance of Cornerstone below.
Inspired by summertime, autumn and 70s pop-rock songs, Zeus’ Say Us is a collection of retro pop/classic Brit-pop songs. Opening track “How Does It Feel” sounds like it could stand in-between anything off The Village Green Preservation Society. Along with a massive upcoming cross Canada tour entitled Bonfire Ball with Collett and Bahamas, the band has also released a video for the track “Marching Through Your Head.” AUX Weekly had a chance to sit down with them to talk about the video and the band’s new album, Say US. A few months ago, Zeus visited AUX TV’s The Alt. Sessions to play their EP, Sounds Like Zeus.
