We met up with The xx yesterday at The Phoenix in Toronto where they supported fellow brits Friendly Fires. Our producer Mel thought she might not be wearing enough black. If it wasn’t that The xx have already reached it band status, it might be appropriate to tell your friends that you saw them back when they opened for Friendly Fires – sorry.
As far as new music goes for this year, The xx are at the top of the buzz list, with a spot on NME’s The Future 50 and a glowing Pitchfork review for their self titled debut. Earlier this month keyboardist Baria Qureshi left the band – with no plans for a replacement The xx embarked on a North American tour – they’re playing tonight at Le National in Montreal with stops in Boston and New York before heading back to Europe. We’ll have a full on camera interview for you shortly but be sure to tune in to AUX Weekly every Saturday at 8pm (Rogers 107) for more new music news.
