During the Calgary Folk Festival we met up with Dan Mangan, who’s latest album ‘Nice Nice Very Nice’ is up for this year’s Polaris Music Prize. The Vancouver singer/songwriter picked a very nice spot by the river on Prince’s Island to play us ‘Tina’s Glorious Comeback’. Just before this little acoustic performance, Mangan played the same song to a sprawling folk festival crowd on the other side of the island. Some of those fans managed to track him down and hide behind a tent during the video below, breaking their silence to applaud after the song – listen for them and Dan saying “thank you… hello?”, it was one of those impossible to plan but perfect moments that only summer music festivals offer.
