If you’re still making your schedule of bands to see during Canadian Music Week, consider adding Sweden’s Hellsongs to your list. Formed in 2004 from a barn gig in the countryside of Gothenburg, Sweden, the three piece band had rehearsed and arranged three different versions of heavy metal classics. After receiving such a great response from their audience, Hellsongs put their interpretative energies towards an EP, then an album.
The result is a debut full-length called “Hymns in the key of 666″ which features covers of such classics as Iron Maiden’s ‘Run To The Hills’, AC DC’s ‘Thunderstruck’ and Sabbath’s ‘Paranoid’. Toronto label Aporia Records have brought the band and this album to Canada.
They’ve already put one CMW show under their belt (I saw them completely wow a houseparty off College last night), but many more on the go. Dates below.
Check out their version of Twisted Sister’s ‘We’re Not Going To Take It’.
