Spotify To Launch In United States
Music bloggers around the world think that it just might. Already making waves in Europe, the slick platform is set to hit the US market in 2010. What's its secret? Giving away music for free, and making money from advertising. The folks over at Spotify appear to have a pretty good thing going; they offer streaming music for free, to anyone. Premium subscribers can transfer the music to their iPhones, etc. or store music for listening when not connected to the Internet for a nominal fee. But the real money is in ads, and the upside is that music piracy may decrease, since Spotify offers on-demand listening for free. Sounds like a good deal for everybody.
