Last night, Much Music announced the nominees for the 2012 Much Music Video Awards, shining a light on Vancouver angst-pop band Marianas Trench, who logged 7 nominations. Both Hedley and Drake trailed the Trench with 5 nominations, while the Bieber-affiliated Carly Rae Jepsen and douche-rockers Down With Webster nabbed 4 nominations each. Justin Bieber scored a pair of nominations for his “Boyfriend” video, and Toronto Polaris-core rockers Fucked Up even earned a nomination for MuchLOUD Rock Video Of The Year.

It’s interesting to note that Marianas Trench frontman Josh Ramsay is credited with co-writing and producing Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe,” as well as co-writing and producing the Danny Fernandes single “Hit Me Up,” meaning that this Vancouver native is connected to at least 13 MMVAs this year.

You can tune-in to the awards on June 17th on Much Music, and bear witness to performances by LMFAO (who are co-hosting the awards) and Katy Perry, who I’m sure will will yell and dance and miss a lot of her notes. Check out a full list of nominees below:

After keeping you on the edge of your seat for many moons/a few days, the winning communities for the Sirius Face the Music concert series have finally been determined, and it’s only fair that we share with you the results.

So without further adieu, this is where the four Face the Music Summer Concert Series are going to take place:

1) Winning community: Telkwa, BC (concert to be held at Fall Fairgrounds in Smithers, BC)

2) Winning community: Sault Ste. Marie, ON (concert to be held at Essar Centre)

But remember that Sirius XM subscribers and local game participants will be invited to these exclusive gigs, a number of select promotional tickets will also be made available to area residents.

Even better? A grand prize consisting of a trip for two to attend the concert of the winner’s choice, spending money and a Sirius Satellite Radio with subscription will be given to the individual player with the highest score, with nine secondary prizes going to the runners up.

So congratulations to the winning communities! Pat yourselves on the back, and accept the collective praise from all attendees who will be treated to some fantastic jams courtesy of your musical knowledge. (Who says being a music snob is a bad thing?)

Canadian crusaders the Sam Roberts Band have just announced the release of their fourth album, Collider, set for a May 10 release via Zoë/Rounder Records, almost three years after Love At the End of the World.

Collider welcomes Califone percussionist Ben Massarella and “woodwind wizard” Stuart Bogie into the works, who, according to the press release, have done more than “just firing up the band’s funkiness,” while Land of Talk front woman Elizabeth Powell joins in on vocals for “Longitude.” The album was produced by Brian Deck (Modest Mouse/Iron and Wine).

Nothing to hear yet, but the band’s website assures us that the first single “I Feel You” will be hitting us any day now.
