The members of Wolf Parade didn't actually meet at their third album's namesake, Expo 86, but they very well could have. Since the band realized that they'd all been at Vancouver's World's Fair as children in the same week, they've had an inside joke that while there, the five tykes met and made a pact to reconvene 15 years in the future and start a band. The pact, of course, never happened; the band actually met in 2003, were signed to iconic indie label Sub Pop by Modest Mouse's Isaac Brock in 2004 and, by the time they had a solid line-up in 2005, recorded a much-beloved debut, Apologies to the Queen Mary. It's still a sweet story, but not as heartstring tugging as the more recent reunion the band experienced before writing and recording their new LP, Expo 86.
After the protracted touring that followed 2008's At Mount Zoomer, the fivesome called a year-long hiatus to work on side projects, relax and prepare themselves. Wolf Parade's principal songwriters, Dan Boeckner and Spencer Krug, wouldn't have had it any other way...
